WHERE TO DO CALLISTHENICS
IN LIMA: MIRAFLORES

Callisthenics locations in Miraflores

Malecón de Miraflores

Icount a total of nine places to do callisthenics along the malecón. You’ll no doubt pass many of them when you’re out walking or running along the malecón. Google Maps shows variations of the Spanish term barras de calistenia to help you locate some of them, but for me, the best callisthenics workout locations are in Parque El Principito (see below) and Parque María Reiche.

These parks have callisthenics bars positioned off the main malecón path, away from passers-by. I prefer not to work out right next to people just going about their own business, which is what you have with the callisthenics bars located right off Parque Antonio Raimondi, for example. Plus, those workout areas have more of a tops-off/guns-out vibe!

All workout zones along the malecón are small in nature and typically consist of just one pull-up bar, a set of parallel bars and monkey bars. For a full callisthenics experience, go somewhere like Parque Mariscal Ramón Castilla in Lince.

Look out for the future Parque de La Juventud (currently being built next to Parque Chino). With 11 units of callisthenics equipment set to be installed, this new park is going to be like a callisthenics park in itself. Callisthenics aside, I do have to wonder if this stretch of the malecón needs another park.

Parque El Principito

Next to a children’s play area within Parque el Principito, you will find some parallel bars, some monkey bars and a pull-up bar.

It’s a small area, but what I like about this workout area is that it’s well away from both the main walkway and the road of this particular stretch of the malecón. So, no people constantly passing you, unlike other workout areas along the malecón. The callisthenics bars are down a flight of steps from the Malecón Cisneros road and not only overlooks a couple of parks but, of course, the ocean, leaving you with incredible views, particularly if you’re working out around sunset. To be fair, you’re guaranteed incredible views wherever you are along the malecón, but some places allow you to appreciate them more than others.

Bear in mind that there will likely be lots of children running around here in the late afternoon/early evening - at least during the summer. They may even try and use the callisthenics equipment at the same time as you!

To avoid children, or if it’s busy with other calistenistas, consider heading south through the park for a couple of minutes in the direction of the lighthouse to reach another workout area with the same callisthenics bars setup.

Parque Ramón Castilla

The first place I’ve seen for callisthenics in Miraflores that is not on the malecón! At the far east of Parque Ramón Castilla (a block off Avenida República de Panamá), you have a compact workout area with a few pieces of callisthenics equipment (pull-up bars, parallel bars, monkey bars, a Swedish ladder and a sloped sit-up bench) that can’t have been installed too long ago.

I feel these callisthenics bars could get busy easily, but they provide a welcome alternative for those Miraflores residents who are not so close to the malecón.

Where else can you do callisthenics in Lima?

There will be other callisthenic parks and outdoor gyms all across Lima, which you’ll find just by walking or running around like I did. Calisthenic Parks is a site that lists where you can do open-air workouts across the city. I couldn’t tell you how accurate and up-to-date most of the locations for callisthenic parks are, but the site can give you some ideas about where you can do callisthenics in Lima.

Do you have anything to share about these callisthenics locations along the malecón or any other workout areas in Lima?
