Callisthenics location in Barranco

6th Aug 2024 (Updated 25th March 2025) | 2-min read

Estadio Luis Gálvez Chipoco

Located next to Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC)/Barranco-Miraflores boundary

This location is really an athletics track, but there are some rather old, neglected callisthenic bars on the inside of the near turn. I was always the only person using the bars, although plenty of people use the track, at least later in the day. Schoolchildren also have sports classes in the stadium.

A couple of drawbacks: this workout area has absolutely zero shelter (more of an issue during the summer), and it is not free. As this complex is managed by the local authorities, it will cost you S/4.40* to use the track i.e. the workout area. Technically, the entry fee entitles you to one hour of access, but I can’t imagine anyone is going to chase you out. Entry is from 7am until 10pm.

I wouldn’t say this is a great place for callesthenics experts, and all in all, the negatives outweigh the positives, but for more basic practitioners like myself, it is just fine. Besides, this location means you don’t need to travel to somewhere like Miraflores to work out.

*There is no charge for Barranco residents i.e. if your DNI has a Barranco address. Simply saying you live in the building across the road won’t work!

Where else can you do callisthenics in Lima?

There will be other callisthenic parks and outdoor gyms all across Lima, which you’ll find just by walking or running around like I did. Calisthenic Parks is a site that lists where you can do open-air workouts across the city. I couldn’t tell you how accurate and up-to-date most of the locations for callisthenic parks are, but the site can give you some ideas about where you can do callisthenics in Lima.

Do you have anything to share about this callisthenic location in Barranco or any other workout area in Lima?
