Your guide to outdoor gyms in Poblado

Carrerra 36 #8A, Provenza

Located on Carrerra 36 #8A in Provenza

There's no way you won’t have passed this outdoor gym whilst walking around Poblado. The gym, located just around the corner from the strip of bars and restaurants on Carrerra 35, may be full of iron and chains and surrounded by a metal fence on two sides, with a prison yard concrete football pitch behind one fence, but don’t be put off by the prison-like vibes! I found it a nice place to work out. It’s relatively quiet and nestled among the Poblado jungle with rushing water as a backdrop.

They did well to squeeze a gym into this space. Despite the limited space, you can exercise on callisthenics apparatus like pull-up bars and parallel bars, lift barbells, use pulley machines, and more.

I used to do callisthenics here around 7:30am during the week, and there were only ever a few other people working out. Its Provenza location makes it a callisthenics hotspot where people often stop off and bust out a few quick reps whilst going about their daily business in Poblado. Its location also means a higher ratio of foreigners working out here than at other outdoor gyms.

All in all, a great little place to work out, as long as you avoid the busier times and don’t mind working out somewhere more visible to people passing by.

Parque Recreativo Providencia,

The outdoor gym at Parque Recreativo Providencia will be slightly out of your way if you’re staying in the more popular Poblado locations in or near Provenza. However, it has everything you need for a proper workout, including a punchbag. It’s full of typical gym equipment for upper- and lower-body workouts, as well as callisthenics apparatus.

The gym can’t have been installed too long ago, as all the equipment is in good condition. Parque Recreativo Providencia is part of a small sports complex that includes tennis courts, a football pitch, and a table tennis club.

Finally, if you want to add some cardio before you start your workout, you’re in luck! This workout zone is located near the top of a road that rises uphill for 1¼ miles from the Santafé shopping centre.

Other outdoor workout zones in Poblado

Of course, other places to do your callisthenics or get a workout in exist across Poblado. Parque Lineal La Presidenta, located right in the heart of Poblado off Avenida El Poblado (Carrerra 43A) has workout equipment, but this didn’t feel like a true gym to me. It reminded me of the exercise parks sometimes known as “senior playgrounds” that you find in China: think, low-intensity, toning exercise apparatus such as ellipticals. You can still get some dips and pull-ups in; however, considering how close you are to the outdoor gym on Carrerra 36A, you might as well head up there instead.

Not too far away, there is a workout station and a few machines outside the Placa Polideportiva Manila (the basketball court) off Calle 11.

Moving a little further south, you’ll find a small workout area just off Parque UVA, below the El Tesoro shopping centre.

I’m sure you’ll come across other callisthenics locations in Poblado.

Where else can you do callisthenics in Medellín?

There are other callisthenic parks and outdoor gyms all across Medellín, which you can find just by walking or running around like I did. Calisthenic Parks is a site that lists where you can do open-air workouts across the city. I couldn’t tell you how accurate and up-to-date most of the locations for callisthenic parks are, but the site can give you some ideas about where you can do callisthenics in Medellín.

Do you have anything to share about these callisthenics locations in Poblado or any other workout area in Medellín?
